Which goods can not be transported by sea in containers?

In fact, most goods can be transported by sea in containers, only a few are not suitable.


According to the provisions on the development of container transportation in China, 12 categories of goods are suitable for container loading, namely electricity, instruments, small machinery, glass and ceramics, handicraft, printing and paper, medicine, tobacco, alcohol, food, daily necessities, chemical products, needle textiles and hardware.


What goods can't be transported by sea in containers?

1. Fresh goods. For example, live fish, shrimp and so on, because sea transportation is longer than other modes of transportation, fresh goods will deteriorate in the process of transportation if they are transported by container sea.

2. If the weight of the goods exceeds the maximum load-bearing weight of the container, such goods cannot be transported by sea through the container.

3. Super-large cargo can not be transported by container sea. Some large parts are super-high and super-wide. These cargo can only be transported by bulk carrier in the hold or deck.

4. Containers do not handle military transportation. If a military or military enterprise carries out container sea transportation, it shall handle it in accordance with commercial transportation. If self-contained containers are used in military transportation, they shall no longer be handled according to the conditions of container transportation.


In container cargo transportation, in order to ensure the safety of ships, cargo and containers, it is necessary to select suitable containers according to the nature, type, volume, weight and shape of cargo; otherwise, not only certain cargo can not be carried, but also cargo damage will be caused by improper selection. The selection of containers for container cargo can be considered as follows:

(1) Clean and dirty goods: grocery containers, ventilated containers, open-top containers and refrigerated containers are optional;

(2) Valuable and fragile goods: grocery containers are optional;

(3) Refrigerated goods and perishable goods: refrigerated containers, ventilated containers and heat-insulated containers are optional;

(4) Bulk cargo: Bulk containers and tank containers are optional;

(5) Animals and plants: choose livestock (animal) containers and ventilated containers;

(6) Heavy goods: open-top container, frame container and platform container are selected;

(7) Dangerous goods: general cargo containers, frame containers and refrigerated containers can be selected.
